3D scanning of Uniscout and Unistar vessels

Measurement with a laser scanner is an increasingly popular method of obtaining spatial data about a ship, mainly due to non-invasive, fast and precise measurement. This allows you to minimize costs, does not force the exclusion of floating objects from work and ensures high accuracy of the final effects.

In March 2018, Scan 3D faced the task of obtaining data and producing 3D models of two ships – Uniscout and Unistar. We made 40 scans on the Uniscouta and 45 scans on Unista. 3D models were created in Autodesk Inventor, including information about the placement of devices and machines. 3D models were used for the collision-free design of BWTS (Ballast Water Tretment System) – Ballast Water Treatment System. This system removes biological organisms (zooplankton, bacteria and algae) from ballast water. Special UV lamps reduce the risk of biodiversity loss caused by the release of ballast water in waters thousands of miles away from the place of abstraction.

Benefits:

  • fast measurement during the transshipment of the ship;
  • equipment resistance to difficult working conditions;
  • design works limited only to small ones;
  • models used to design optimal solutions.
