Designing the Future 2024. A meeting with BIM at the highest level, where the use of GPR (Georadar) and 3D scanning meet in one place.

On April 17, 2023, another edition of the Designing the Future 2024 conference, organized by BIM Klaster, took place in Krakow. This unique event, for years considered pioneering in Poland, is one of the most important meeting places for designers, architects and contractors interested in BIM technology. This year’s edition once again attracted a large group of specialists who had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the latest trends and exchange experiences in an informal and friendly atmosphere.

Scan3D as a Technology Partner

This year scan3D had the honor to participate in the event as a technology partner. Our specialists, Artur Pleśniarski and Szymon Bloch, presented a lecture entitled: “Discovering hidden dimensions: precise detection and GPR in the world of 3D scanning”. During the presentation, they presented case studies in which the use of GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) technology and 3D scanning saved projects at the implementation stage.

Key Technologies: GPR and Utility

The conference presented the benefits of combining 3D scanning with GPR (Georadar) and Utility technology, in accordance with the international PAS128 standard. Thanks to these tools, it is possible to:

  • Precise mapping of underground infrastructure without disturbing the terrain.
  • Discovering hidden structural elements that are inaccessible with traditional methods.
  • Optimizing project costs and time thanks to quick access to accurate data.
  • Increasing the safety of construction works by minimizing the risk of damage to existing installations.
  • Facilitating coordination between different teams thanks to comprehensive data collected in one place.

scan3D training on the use of georadar with precise detection

The day after the conference, on April 18, Artur Pleśniarski, Paweł Gacek and Szymon Jabłoński prepared a special training for the participants entitled “Secrets of scanning underground infrastructure – Utility & GPR”. The methods and techniques that we use in our daily work were discussed in detail. The participants had the opportunity to learn about the latest tools, such as:

  • Ground penetrating radars: Leica DS2000 and IDS StreamDP, which is 3 times faster than other solutions available on the market and penetrates up to 8 m
  • Precise detectors from RDi – how to operate, how to detect
  • Wall ground penetrating radars: Leica C-Thrue

Summary

Our experience in combining GPR, Utility and 3D scanning technologies confirms that we are able to meet the most difficult challenges in engineering projects. Each of these tools not only increases precision, but also speeds up project implementation and minimizes risk. We are glad that we could share our knowledge with the conference participants and we invite you to next year’s edition!
