One of the interesting ships that was scanned was undoubtedly the vessel called Madrid Spirit. This ship is a gas carrier, which is characterized by considerable dimensions (up to 285 m in length!) and specialized purpose – it is a supplier of liquefied gas. Our goal was to accurately scan a large size ship’s engine room to design a new ballast water treatment system. A particularly dense grid of measuring stands was established in places where there was significant nesting of equipment and pipes.
Based on the created point cloud, we are sure that the state of the power plant and its components: pipes, machines, structural elements presented on it is current. New elements of the ballast system designed on the basis of current documentation will avoid collisions with existing ones.
